Does Baskin-Robbins Take EBT, SNAP, or Food Stamps?
This information is current as of June 6, 2022.
Craving one of the unique flavors of Baskin-Robbins ice cream? If you’re eligible for SNAP or part of the EBT program, you may be asking, “Does Baskin-Robbins take EBT, SNAP, or food stamps?”
Unfortunately, Baskin-Robbins is not a part of SNAP’s Restaurant Meal Program, so they don’t accept EBT, SNAP, or food stamps. However, you can still enjoy Baskin-Robbins through EBT by finding a supermarket near you that sells Baskin-Robbins ice cream as a grocery item.
The Difference Between EBT, SNAP, and Food Stamps
SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. This government-funded program helps low-income Americans buy nutritious foods and beverages.
The SNAP program was formerly known as the Food Stamp Program and is still commonly called that, but instead of using paper stamps to purchase groceries, people now use an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.
An EBT card works like a debit card. It is preloaded with a monthly amount determined by your household’s income. You can use this card at participating retail food stores, such as grocery stores, gas stations, and even farmer’s markets.
Why Doesn’t Baskin-Robbins Take EBT?
Baskin-Robbins is considered more of a restaurant than a grocery store. It is also not yet a part of the Restaurant Meals Program (RMP), a collection of restaurants that have agreed to accept EBT payments. Since Baskin-Robbins isn’t a part of this program, it is not eligible to take SNAP, Food Stamps, or an EBT card as payment.
Since the RMP is constantly expanding and varies state-by-state, Baskin-Robbins may join in the future.
Currently, the Restaurant Meals program is made up of primarily fast-food restaurants that serve much more than just ice cream. Some of these restaurants include, which are like Baskin-Robbins, include:
- Dairy Queen
Each state has a different list of restaurants in the program, but as of June 2022, Baskin-Robbins does not participate; however, we hope they will participate sometime in the future.
If you’re still craving Baskin-Robbins ice cream, you may be in luck.
Some grocery stores do sell Baskin-Robbins ice cream, and—if that grocery store accepts EBT cards—you can enjoy your favorite flavors from the freezer aisle for free. Many grocery stores even have iconic Baskin-Robbins favorites like Love Potion #31, Icing on the Cake, and Wild ‘N Reckless.
What Is the Restaurant Meals Program?
The Restaurant Meals Program, or RMP, is a part of the government-funded SNAP program. It allows certain people that receive SNAP benefits to use their EBT cards at participating restaurants.
Not all people that receive SNAP can utilize the benefits of the Restaurant Meals Program. It is designed for people who are not able to prepare meals themselves or people who do not have permanent housing to be able to store and prepare food. Instead, they can enjoy a prepared hot meal at participating restaurants.
These groups include the elderly, disabled, or homeless people.
Each state has a different list of restaurants that participate in the program, but you will recognize some big fast-food names such as:
- Burger King
- Domino’s Pizza
- Taco Bell
- And more…
Where Can I Buy Ice Cream with EBT?
At any grocery or convenience store, you will be able to find ice cream of all flavors and brands, including Baskin-Robbins, in some grocery stores. You can also find ice cream at some restaurants in the Restaurants Meals Program if you are eligible for this program.
Dairy Queen is known for its excellent ice cream and creamy milkshakes, and you can find plenty of soft serve from Wendy’s or Burger King.
If you are craving your favorite Baskin-Robbins flavors and want to use your EBT card to get it for free, there is a way! To find which grocery stores sell Baskin-Robbins ice cream, you can use the Baskin-Robbins grocery store locator and search by city, state, and zip code.
You can then use the SNAP retailer locator link above and see if any grocery stores overlap. Once one overlaps, you’ve just found your ticket to enjoy the famous Baskin Robbin’s Cherries Jubilee flavor for free (with an EBT card). Yum!
Where Can I Buy Cakes with EBT?
Everyone has their favorite dessert. Some people prefer the creamy coldness of their favorite ice cream flavors, while others instead savor a cake with doughy layers and sweet cream.
If a cake is more your thing, don’t fret because you can also purchase this dessert with an EBT card. You can even use your EBT card to buy special birthday and wedding cakes.
Most grocery stores have a dedicated bakery specializing in cakes of all kinds. You can use the SNAP retailer locator to search grocery stores with bakeries and stand-alone bakeries that accept EBT cards near you.
Popular grocery stores with bakeries that take SNAP benefits include:
- Whole Foods
- Food Lion
If you are interested in purchasing a wedding or birthday cake with an EBT card, keep in mind that it may cost extra to personalize the cake and that the EBT card will not cover any additional costs. Luckily, grocery store premade cakes are delicious and available in unique flavors and particular event messages.
Although Baskin-Robbins does not yet accept EBT, SNAP, or Food Stamps, it is still possible to enjoy your favorite flavors using your EBT card. Find a grocery store near you that sells Baskin-Robbins ice cream containers and accepts EBT purchases. It’s a win-win!
