Does Sheetz Accept EBT?

According to the Sheetz website, “Sheetz operates more than 500 high-energy stores throughout six states: Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and North Carolina.” Like Wawa, the convenience store is a fan favorite where customers can buy fuel, coffee, tobacco, snacks, bakery items, and hot food.
Suppose you’re one of the millions of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients. In that case, you may wonder if Sheetz does or doesn’t accept EBT for purchases. Yes, Sheetz does accept SNAP, once known as Food Stamps, on eligible food items. Read on to learn:

Things You Can Buy at Sheetz With SNAP EBT
You can use your SNAP EBT card to purchase the following items at Sheetz:
- Fruits and veggies
- Juices and non-alcoholic beverages
- Dairy products such as milk, yogurt, and cheeses
- Baby formula
- Bread
- Snacks
- Cereals, crackers, and some cookies
- Seeds and plants which produce food
Depending on your eligibility and where you live, some stores may participate in the Restaurant Meal Program (RMP). If the store is in a specific state or county, you may be allowed to purchase hot prepared foods.
The following states take part in the RMP:
- Arizona
- Certain California counties
- Maryland
- Michigan
- Rhode Island
- Virginia
- Illinois counties such as Dewitt, Franklin, and Cook County – zip code areas include 60619, 60620, 60628, and 60617
Things You Can’t Buy at Sheetz With SNAP EBT
You cannot use your EBT card to purchase the following items at convenience stores, gas stations, or grocery stores:
- Gas
- Alcohol
- CBD
- Cigarettes
- Lottery Tickets
- Pet Food
- Toiletries
- Vitamins
- Medicine
- Hot Food
Using Your EBT Card at Sheetz
As you probably know, your Electronic Benefit Card (EBT) card is automatically refilled every month with your SNAP benefits. Once approved, you’re then notified of your monthly benefit amount. EBT cards work like debit or bank cards. However, they can only be used to buy food items at specific retailers.
When ready to pay for your EBT-approved grocery items, you will insert, tap, or swipe your EBT card into the card machine. From here, you will need to enter your PIN. You should have created a four-digit PIN when you first received your EBT card. Depending on your state, some PINs can be made online through the SNAP website or by phone call when activating your card.
You may want to choose memorable numbers as your PIN. Think of numbers easy for you to guess but not easily guessed by others. For example, using your birthday is usually too obvious. However, other special dates may be important to you that is acceptable.
Try to avoid entering an incorrect PIN several times in a row. You could get locked out of your account. Once you enter your PIN, your transaction will be complete.
Other Forms of Payment at Sheetz
If you’re buying non-SNAP items or want to save your SNAP funds, you can use another payment source. Sheetz stores accept Sheetz gift cards, cash, debit card, and/or credit cards.
Stores That Accept SNAP EBT Food Stamps
Like Sheetz, most major convenience chain stores like Circle K accept EBT and ARCO or ampm for specific food and beverage items. You will most likely notice a sign on the register or door indicating that EBT is accepted.
